Manta Isle

Created: Fall '08
Medium: Acrylics
Time: Approx 10+ hours?

This first started out as a manta ray, unfortunately I didn't like the outcome so I decided to mess around with it, and voila a nice landscape. I realli enjoyed doing this piece, especially the sky, I loved the combination of colors in the skies and the ocean below as time progressed.

Some parts of the painting were cut off when I cropped it from the picture since I didn't take it straight enough. Also, I can't take pictures that well so it's kind of blurry ><

Nice, do you paint a lot? Traditional is pretty darn difficult, so good job!
:iconjustinchee:
Well I've onli seriously painted for 2 years =P and I usually just paint for 2-3 hours a week at a youth centre (they let me use their supplies =])

Thanks =D The brushes I use aren't professional or anything, they're those cheapo brushes you see at highschools and sometimes elementary =P

O.O OMIGOD. ACRYLICS!!! XD SO...AWESOME. I love how you manage to paint the details in a way that you can make out what those trees are. OwO; And I love the blending of the colors...very pretty.

Anyways...

HOW DO YOU DO THAT?! The subtle blending that makes the color seem to just blend with each other. =P And I know that acrylics are kind of like the slap the colors on thingy.

And how big was the canvas?

And it looks awesome. =D Awesome work~ :D
:iconjustinchee:
Yay~ Thanks =D I used a very thin brush (the brush wasy pretty much broken, had max 5 hairs on it ><;) And I painted the outline of trees and surrounded it with small dabs of leaves =]

Well, with most of the blending (i assume you're referring to the sky and the ocean) I used thick thick thick slops of paint... well maybe not that thick XD. But I made sure that they did not dry too fast so i could blend them more easily (without the rough edges showing) Also, with those little bits of waves, I used dipped my brush (helps to have a nice soft longish brush, not those stubby prickly ones) into some paint and dipped it into some water, then I took of some access on a piece of paper by stroking 1-2 times then I painted strokes on some parts of the ocean to give it a light watery feel =P.

Um... not sure of the exact measurements, but it's just about the same size of a regular computer monitor, but more squarier =P

Thanks =] I love painting =D

...=O -gasp- YOU. USE. WATER?! -was taught not to use water- :X Oh wells...I guess I can sneak in water when no one is looking. XD And man...I can't seem to make it somewhat abstract-ish but detailed...D: Oh wells...I guess I need to work on it. xD I was just painting for like...a few weeks..D: Guess I need a bit more practice. xP

But awesome technique of blending you got there. =O Makes it seem very soft...xD And I'll keep your technique in mind. :D
:iconjustinchee:
=P Well don't use water if it's one a blank canvas, use it (along with a bit of paint) on top of dried paint, it gives it a very light but neat effect. I don't think I've ever done an abstract painting before =S Maybe I should try sometime and I'm sure you'll get it with more practice!

Yay~ =] soft =], the problem with that technique is that it's hard to re-do if you mess up on top of it ><.
